What is an Officiant?

In UK ceremonies, the term "officiant" refers to the individual who leads or conducts the service. Depending on the nature of the ceremony—be it religious, civil, or humanist—different titles are used to denote these roles.

Religious Ceremonies:

  • Christianity: In Christian denominations, the person leading the ceremony is typically referred to as a priest, minister, pastor, or vicar, depending on the specific tradition.

  • Judaism: Jewish ceremonies are conducted by a rabbi.

  • Islam: In Islamic traditions, an imam leads the service.

  • Hinduism: Hindu ceremonies are often officiated by a pandit or priest.
